On July 4th Secret Screenings re-launched with a very special one night only pre-release screening of ‘Searching for Sugarman’ followed by a surprise performance by Rodriguez with full band

A Sundance award-winning documentary about Rodriguez, one of the greatest ‘70s US rock icons who never was, this is a film about hope, inspiration and the resonating power of music – soulful and prophetic.
On July 4th, just as the closing credits began to roll, a very intimate and surprise performance by Rodriguez and his full band followed the screening including a six-song set and encore. More than 1,000 attended the Secret Screening production at The Troxy, London’s most glorious former picture palace, which was transformed into the South African Stadia of Rodriguez Homecoming with smells of Bilton and sights of flags and festoons. Malik Bendjelloul, the film’s director, greeted the audience following Rodriguez’s encore to recognize the film’s subject and contribution to music and movements around the world. Malik said ‘"Secret Screenings is a filmmaker's dream. A magic night!"
Directed by Malik Bendjelloul and produced by Simon Chinn (Man on Wire) Searching for Sugarman is in cinemas now courtesy of Studio Canal.
